Hosting Account Set Up Instructions…

 

I  WILL SET UP MY HOSTING ACCOUNT MYSELF AND CHOOSE MY OWN PASSWORDS!

NO PROBLEM.  JUST FOLLOW THESE STEPS TO SET UP YOUR ACCOUNT YOURSELF – LET US KNOW WHEN YOU ARE DONE, PROVIDE US THE INFORMATION WE NEED AS EXPLAINED BELOW AND WE WILL FINISH THE TECHNICAL MIGRATION DETAILS FOR YOU:

 

  1. Read all these steps first so you know what I will need from you to start the migration after you set up your new server account with HostGator.
  2. SET UP A BUSINESS ACCOUNT WITH HOSTGATOR HERE  (Recommended for larger sites > 10 pages / eCommerce / Heavy Graphics)
  3. Your Domain Names can also be transferred after your account is set up. I can help with that as well. If your domain is registered with a domain registra like GoDaddy, I will need the login to that account to change DNS records once the migration to HostGatgor is completed. You can continue to renew your domain name with GoDaddy or whomever you have it with if you like.  If you have your domain name registered with us I will be able to migrated the domain name for you.
  4. Select only one HOSTING PLAN above best suited for you. I recommend the business plan for most accounts but if your site is very simple, the other two will be fine. All include a FREE SSL certificate as well!  The Business Plan uses a much stronger higher level Positive SSL Certificate and free SEO Tools with a Dedicated IP address which is very good for Google ranking!  Click on the info icons on their website page for details.  I can assist you if you are not sure which plan you should get – simply email me or better still set up a 1hr phone appointment here.
  5. WRITE DOWN THE SUPPORT PIN that you choose during the account set up process and keep it in a safe place AND send us a copy!  I will need that pin number to migrate (no charge)  and support your website and email server for you as just we have in the past!
  6. To get the best pricing, sign up for at least a 2 to 3 yr billing term so the promotional prices are locked in for the longest term!
  7. Be sure to fill  out the billing and contact information correctly with a valid email address and valid credit card to be sure you can be contacted as the website owner by HostGator if there are issues with your account. Remember to save the SUPPORT PIN you create!
  8. Finally —  Forward any of the email you will receive containing your login information, username, password and support pin from HostGator to John D. at Rockbridge so i can finish setting up / start migrating your site!

DOMAIN NAMES:  If you have your domain name registerd with Rockbridge Hosting / ENOM no problem we will be able to make the transfer so everthing is in one place for you at HostGator. If your domain name is regsitered / renewed at GoDaddy or any another hosting / domain name provider, we will need your account log in information to access it in order to change and redirect the NS records so the internet knows what server to find your website files.

EMAIL –  You should clean up, download and back up your email.  We cannot be responsible for email that has not been backed up. Migration includes eMail but backing up is still recommended.

 

I DON’T HAVE TIME TO DO THIS!   CAN YOU DO IT FOR ME?

Yes. If you currently have a support contract with us I can do it for you (John DeBlase / Owner) . I will just need your formal approval and some key additional information from you first.  You can provide all of that to me using the  MIGRATE FOR ME form we set up to make this very easy for you. I will then create all the usernames, passwords, challenge question / answers and support pin numbers for you using the information you provide on the form.

Once I set it up your account I will send copies for your records.  You will  be able to change passwords after I am finished.
